What does this resource cover? 

This is a lesson created by the Literacy Information and Communication System (LINCS) within the U.S. Department of Education and, according to the included lesson plan, will help learners develop critical awareness of social presence in social media communities. 

What will community members learn? 

According to the included lesson plan, after learners complete this lesson, they will be able to:

  • Identify several different social media platforms.
  • Join and post in a secret Facebook group.
  • Follow multi-step oral instructions.
  • Record information in a graphic organizer.
  • Identify common characteristics across a data set.
  • Describe their analysis of social media practices of others

90 minutes

What materials are needed?

Technology skills checklist (included), whiteboard, paper, markers, projector, projection screen, Facebook account, secret Facebook group, tablets connected to the Internet for students and instructor, concept map (included), student’s personal mobile devices
